Despite its heterogeneity, the fabric of non-profit organizations represents 5% of France’s GDP, employs nearly 2 million salaried staff and mobilizes 16 million volunteers.

All associations and federations need to ensure the long-term viability of their organization and activities: they must secure financing, recruit and train their employees and volunteers, and publicize and promote their activities by mobilizing their members. They must also respond to increased competition from public authorities, private players and each other.
